Bird Necessities... Birds Want & Need

Wild birds are always looking for a good place to nest and raise their young. Providing a wild bird habitat will bring a larger variety of birds to your garden. When you plan your garden keep in mind that there are several necessities for providing good bird habitat.

     A plentiful supply of food needs to be available on a regular basis throughout the year. You will notice that every time you water your yard, birds take advantage of the water to drink, bath, and play.  Adding a bird bath to you garden is an important element to attract birds. Place bird baths at various locations around your yard. 

    Providing shelter for your birds is important as well. Birds look for nesting sites that provide them with safety and shelter from the weather and other animals. Birds need bird houses, nesting boxes and nesting material in order to get their house up and running. 

    Remember, birds' needs also change. For example, their needs change with the seasons. Sometimes food is plentiful and sometimes not. You may need to provide more seed during the harsh cold winters when natural food resources are scarce. Remember that changes affect their supply of food, water and shelter. By supplying the birds’ needs, you will find that birds return year after year. You will enjoy generations of song birds in your garden for years to come.
